First Video Short Story Contest in Oral Narratives

Turning new technologies into an ally of the ancient tradition of storytelling is the goal of the first edition of the event "Cuento en corto" (video short story). International Storytelling Network and School of Writers urge storytellers and writers from around the world to write, tell and record stories of free themes for dissemination through Youtube and collected on the website www.cuentoencorto.com.

Storytelling is an activity that triggers creativity and intercultural communication. We believe that new technologies, with imagination and good will, can help keep alive the legacy of Scheherazade, the heroine of The Thousand and One Nights - and subvert the self-imposed prophecy that promises us a world in which interpersonal relationships are displaced by technology.

We want to count with all of you in this contest: storytellers and writers of short stories. That's why we created "Give voice" (Dale voz) section as a place where writers who seek storytellers, and storytellers who seek stories, get in contact and fellowship with the competition. And like all contests, of course, there will have a winner and a prize, 500 euros and a scholarship to attend a free workshop School of Writers for three months.

The competition intends to recover the ancient tradition of storytelling through new technologies. 'Video short story' rewards the best storytelling hanging on Youtube

(Madrid, 13 December)

Turning new technologies into an ally of the oral tradition is the objective of the exhibition 'video short story' -organized by International Storytelling Network and School of Writers, the first vdeo short story competition organized through the distribution system in Internet videos Youtube. 'Cuentoencorto' places for writers and storytellers from around the world to write, tell and record stories of free themes for a duration not exceeding five minutes.

The storytellers and writers interested in participating in this contest may do so through the website www.cuentoencorto.com where you will find the requirements to participate, the stories submitted by participants and even a section, 'Give voice' (Dale voz) , where writers can leave their texts to the oral storytellers interested. The deadline for sending the recordings will end next January 15 and the jury's decision will be made public on 30 January. The winner will receive a cash prize of 500 euros and a scholarship to one course on-line School for Writers.

This initiative is part of School of Writers and the International Storytelling Network, a newly created organization that groups more storytellers thousand fifty different countries on five continents. "Storytelling is part of the magical land of childhood, but is an activity that triggers more intense creativity, imagination, and intercultural communication," explains in Madrid one of the founders of the International Storytelling Network, the writer Enrique Paez.

Paez, along with twelve other storytellers, founded the International Storytelling Network in September this year to "for keeping alive the legacy of Scheherazade, the heroine of a thousand and one night at a time in which orality is being displaced from the interpersonal relations by new technologies. " The Writers' School literary workshop, working with the International Storytelling Network since birth and who teaches creative writing through the Internet for ten years, took up the gauntlet to organize a contest in which precisely the new technologies were used in the ancient tradition of storytelling.
